Chronic sinusitis, also known as chronic rhinosinusitis, is a condition in which one’s sinuses become inflamed and swollen for at least twelve weeks. This condition interferes with nasal drainage and causes mucus to build up overtime, making breathing through your nose more difficult. Chronic sinusitis can be caused by an infection, allergies, respiratory tract infection, nasal polyps, or a deviated septum.

Chronic sinusitis and acute sinusitis are similar, but acute sinusitis is temporary and like a cold; chronic sinusitis lasts longer and often causes more fatigue.

It is possible that if you wait too long to consult your doctor and/or ignore your symptoms, you may experience complications, such as meningitis, vision/olfactory problems, and other possible infections.

Consult your doctor if you think your symptoms coincide with this condition or call us to book an appointment at 309-452-0995 or 217-717-4404.
