How does allergy desensitization work?
This form of immunotherapy works in a similar fashion to vaccines. By injecting the allergen into the body intentionally, the body eventually builds up a resistance to the allergen, thus desensitizing it from the allergen altogether overtime.
How long does it take for allergy desensitization to work?
For some, it may take up to twelve months before seeing signs of improvement in one’s symptoms. Treatment is typically continued for three to five years for optimal results.
Do allergy shots have side effects?
Some people may experience allergic side effects after the shot is administered because an allergen is being placed in the body intentionally. This is the reason our clinic requires patients to be monitored for at least thirty minutes after their injection to ensure the monitored safety of the reaction if they were to have one.
